Why do we need to retrieve information?

1. To investigate the scope of the topic or problem
• get the definition
• identifying the variables and construct
2. To provide a context of theory related to the topic or problem
3. To aid in the selection of research method
4. to assess previous research
5. to justify selection of the problem for research
6. to address duplication
7. to investigate the scope of the topic or problem

 This is a sample of how to organize information.

The next step is to map it according to main categories.
In this example : 'Learner and teaching' and 'Approaches'

The initial map will then give you an overview of gaps in previous research.

 

General rule of thumb:

• Avoid colloquial language
• Always keep your RW in mind
• Highlight the studies and theories to frame your research
• Conceptual framework
• Theoretical framework
• Research framework

Conclusion:

Make sure readers will know:

• the thories you are using;
• what gaps you are addressing
• (possibly) what your contribution to knowledge and field.
